Size Your Ceiling Fan

Guys, it’s gonna be a hot summer and for Alaskans. That means it’s gonna be absolutely brutal. With our supply issues throughout the state, you already know that when you decide to add or replace your ceiling fan, you might not be able to get it right away. It might take days, weeks, or even months to get what you need, and sometimes, the freight is more than the product you ordered.

So, it’s a good idea to start looking ahead on electrical home improvements. If you know that you’re going to use ceiling fans to help beat the heat this summer, start your search now.

Calculating Square Footage Of A Room

In order to calculate the square footage of your room, measure two adjacent walls and then multiply them.

Length x Width = Area

Be sure to look at your ceiling height.

The ideal height of a ceiling fan is at least 7’ above the floor and at least 18” from the walls.

Keep in mind other obstacles in the room like low ceilings, bunk beds, or anything else that puts people close to the moving blades. There are different types of ceiling fans including enclosed ceiling fans that can be installed in those locations.

Buy It Yourself Or Have Your Electrician Buy It For You?

There are so many options when it comes to choosing the right ceiling fan. We can help you narrow down your options, but you’re the best person to know what you want. We can tell you what you need, but ceiling fans are a needful-want item like light fixtures. We know we need light, but there are so many different varieties, what we choose might not be what you want to see every single day in the comfort of your own home.

The other thing to keep in mind is that if we purchase your ceiling fan(s), there will be a mark-up. That mark-up covers the time it takes for our team to coordinate with you in choosing the right fan, covering the cost of the fan until your invoice is paid to reimburse us for that cost, the time for our certified electrician to pick the ceiling fan up and to deliver it. That’s an added cost to you and to our team.

So, if you’re on a tight budget or if you know you’re going to be picky when it comes to what’s installed – which is perfectly reasonable since it’s your home – then it might be a good idea to choose and purchase your fan. And then, if you need someone else to install it, give us a call and we would be glad to help you beat that summer heat!
